Can't believe my baby is going to be...

FIVE!!! Brayden's birthday is next Wednesday (October 13), and I am filled with so many emotions as we approach the big day. I LOVE watching him grow and learn and develop, but I don't want my baby to grow up. It seems like yesterday I cried every day missing him and wanting him to come home. The last 4 years have gone by so quickly and I have loved every minute of it...the good and bad. Brayden is intelligent, athletic, independent, loving, funny, happy, sassy, strong-willed, persistent, stubborn, caring, thoughtful, etc... etc... etc...

I picked one picture from each year of his life...hard to pick, but I did it. I think they all show a little bit of his personality. I am so proud of my little monkey (yes, I will call him that forever!)!

So, it has been quite some time since my last post. Let me get all of you caught up (if anyone still visits, that is).

* I am working part time as a preschool teacher and LOVE it!
* Layna is loving preschool and she is in my class.
* Brayden LOVES Pre-K and don't anyone dare say he is in preschool. He WILL correct you. He has his first field trip this week on Wednesday. I am so excited for him.
* My beloved Grandpa Thompson passed away last week. He was an amazing man and will be surely missed, but remembered for his strength and love.
* Matt is still working for JP Morgan Chase, but isn't real happy. We are thankful that we are both employed during such economic distress in our country.
* Brayden's 5th (yes, I said 5th) birthday is coming up on October 13th. Where did my baby go?
* Brayden is in T-ball and enjoying it.
* Layna still loves her dance class. I am hoping she continues to enjoy it because seeing her all dolled up in a recital this spring brings a smile to my face.
* Tis the season...Brayden is battling his first cold. I am really hoping for a healthier fall and winter this year. We shall see.
* We did our annual visit to the apple orchard this past weekend...so, I included some pics from that adventure. We all had a great time, but I wish Brayden had been feeling better.
* I have been trying to eat healthier and less as well as be more active. As a result I have lost about 6 pounds. I am hoping to continue to lose some weight and just maintain a healthier lifestyle. I am having great success with journaling my food each day. It takes some dedication and work, but it is paying off.
* I am including pics of Brayden from his 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th birthday parties. He sure has changed over the years, but he will always be my little monkey.

First Days of School...

Brayden, Malayna and I all started school this week. As some of you may know, I have accepted a position teaching part day preschool on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at Gingercare (where I have worked off and on for the last bunch of years). So, I started teaching this past Tuesday.

Brayden started his part day Pre-Kindergarten class this past Monday and Layna started her part day Preschool class this past Tuesday. Malayna is in the class that I teach. So far, she has done very well with it. She even calls me Mrs. Goldstein during class. It is absolutely adorable!

Both kiddos love going to school and I love seeing their enthusiasm and excitement. I can only hope they continue to love school for many, many more years.

Here are some photos from the kids' first days of school...I didn't take any of myself on my first day! LOL The photos are a bit out of order, but I don't feel like fixing it. The first set is Brayden's first day and the second set is Layna's first day.

Happy 4th Anniversary

...to Brayden. On August 23, 2006 Brayden Carlos came home to be with our family forever. I could type for hours to try to express the feelings I felt on that joyous day, but it is very difficult to put into words. My fellow adoption families all know and have felt the feelings I am referring to. I can only imagine that the feelings are similar to that of the day a woman gives birth. As many of you know, Brayden's journey home was not the easiest for me. I had to let go of control and just wait...are you kidding me! I am a control FREAK. The whole process brought on so mnany emotions...happiness, sadness, frustration, joy, excitement, jealousy, hopelessness, hopefulness, helpless, relief to name just a few. I was nowhere near prepared for the roller coaster ride that our journey was, and will never forget it either. However, it is all a distant memory as we enjoy our times with him. He has brought so much life to our family. He is funny, goofy, silly, challenging, kind, friendly, inquisitive, energetic (which is an understatement), loving, helpful, creative, smart, frustrating, sassy, independent, etc... etc... etc... I can't imagine life without him and can barely remember life before him. He is 100% Daddy's boy and Matt loves it. He is and always will be my monkey boy (literally and figuratively) and I love him with all my heart. This past weekend we attended an annual "family" picnic. I am putting family in quotations because it is a long time friend of my grandparents that invites us to the picnic every year. When I was little I remember participating in all the games and activitis. So, it was neat to see my kiddos participating this year. Matt and I even played some games too. The kids were in a running race. Brayden took first in the boys 5 and under group (there were only two boys), and Layna took third in her 5 and under group. Matt and I enjoyed the shoe kick (we both lost quite badly), egg toss and water balloon toss. We came in second in the water balloon toss and third (I think) in the egg toss. The kids also enjoyed the petting zoo and pony rides. It was a great time and here are some photo highlights.

Just thought I would update everyone on us...we are here, just busy. Summer is flying by so quickly. We have been enjoying the weather, water, bike riding, playing with friends, ballet, soccer...

Here is our life in a nutshell...

Brayden started his allergy shots and is one brave boy. The first one was rough, but now he lets the nurse do them without any fussing. He is allergic to weeds, grass, trees and mold. Mold is the worst for him. Thankfully, no food or animal allergies.
Layna still loves her dance class. We hope to continue enrolling her.
Brayden wants to try baseball next...soccer doesn't seem to be his sport.
Brayden will be starting Pre-Kindergarten in the fall and Layna will be starting Preschool in the fall. Where did my babies go?
Matt is still very busy at work
I continue to sub off and on at the daycare
Coby (our new puppy) is settling in nicely with our family...see previous post if you didn't know we got a new puppy
Layna has two imaginary friends, Lolo and Didi...the go everywhere with her. At least they don't cost any money...but, in Layna's words "they drive her crazy"!
Hoping to get the kids in some swim lessons soon
No trips planned at the moment. We are hanging out at home just enjoying the freedom of the summer...traveling will be trickier now that we have two dogs.

For those of you that are not on facebook, or missed my postings...we have added a new member to our family. Please meet Coby...

He is a three-month-old german shepherd mix (husky?, lab?, rot?). He is full of energy and spunk just like Sydney. They are a great fit for each other. Coby is very gentle with the kids (hallelujah) and the kids love him as well.

We are still here...time has just been getting away from me lately. So. I am going to bullet point a few highlights of our life.

Brayden has been diagnosed with multiple environmental allergies by the pediatrician. We are getting ready to see an allergist.

Layna is growing into a beautiful young lady (however, she is a clutz)....and her speech is exploding!

Matt and I are about to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary on May 27th. We are going on a little child-free getaway to celebrate.

Matt is working like crazy and glad to be busy at work.

I am enjoying subbing...working a lot lately.

We are all LOVING the warmer weather...playing outdoors is awesome. All of us now have bikes, so we like to go on family bike rides as well.

Layna will be starting a dance class in June and Brayden is still deciding between soccer and gymnastics. Soccer seems to be in the lead right now. I am also hoping we can swing some swim lessons for both kiddos as well.

Malayna's 3rd Birthday Party

Yesterday was Layna's 3rd birthday party. I can't believe she is three now...time is going too fast. Anyway, here are some photo highlights from the day. Unfortunately, I did not get any good shots of Layna in her homemade Tinkerbell tutu (or tututu as Layna calls it). I will have to dress her up another time and her her pose for a few shots. Here are some photos of the cake (yes, I made it...insert pride), some present photos and blowing out the candles. It was a great party. Thank you to everyone that was able to share in the festivities.

When we went to the Dells with our friends, the Haefners, Andrew and Alayna both had their own goggles. Brayden and Layna expressed some interest in them. So, in preparation for our upcoming weekend getaway to Key Lime Cove with Grandma and Grandpa I bought the kids their own goggles. Needless to say, they want to wear them ALL THE TIME!

Well, time has flown by again and I am not remembering to update my blog. Well, here I am! In an effort to save time, I am only posting my Dells photos to Facebook (I will include the link), but here are a few more photos from playing around the house. First, the kids enjoyed doing some "cooking" with each other...all dressed up and everything. Then, of course, Sydney has to make an appearance on the blog. I included a sweet shot of Brayden playing with Sydney. He loves Sydney, but rarely takes time out to play with her and enjoy her. Layna is usually the one playing with Sydney NONSTOP! Next, the kiddos enjoyed some time playing in a bucket of soapy water. Again, Sydney had to get in the middle and didn't seem to understand why she couldn't play too! She was too funny. Last, but not least, Brayden has discovered that he can climb the pole in our basement...ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP!!! I swear this boy is part monkey. Enjoy the pictures!

A walk down memory lane...

It's snowing outside and becoming bitterly cold. So, I am going to take a walk down memory lane...and, you all can come with me.

Brayden during our first visit trip. NOTHING will every compare to the feelings I felt the first time I laid eyes on him and got to hold him for the first time. I smiled from that moment and didn't stop throughout the entire trip...well, until I had to leave anyway.

Visit trip #2...bittersweet because I got to see and hold my son again, but we just didn't know how much longer it was going to be for him to come home. He was such an amazing baby.

Visit trip #3 that turned into the pick up trip. I didn't know until arriving that the time had come to bring my baby boy home...that smile was back on my face!!!

Our first trip to meet Layna! What a beautiful baby. I fell in love instantly and probably held her throughout the entire trip. She had a little harder time adjusting to being with us than Brayden did. She just needed more time to build her trust and learn to love us.

The best Christmas present ever...Layna is coming home! We arrived home with her 5 days before Christmas and it was such a relief given the uncertainty of Guatemalan adoptions at that time. We are so blessed to have her home. She fits right in.

Thanks for going down memory lane with me...makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

So, you probably thought you were going to see pictures of the kids, but not so much. I was just looking at Sydney the other day and said to Matt "Did you ever think this is what Sydney was going to look like when she grew up?" To which we both agreed "no"! She has changed so much over the last 7 months.

Some coworkers of Matt's are from Guatemala and still have family there. So, we asked if they would be able to bring us some traditional Guatemalan clothes for Layna to take her three-year-old pictures in (she turns three in March). Well, they sure did deliver! I was so excited that I had to dress her up and she took my breath away. She is so beautiful!

My Birthday Dinner!

On my actual birthday, we spent the day in airports and on airplanes headed to Palm Beach, Florida! We arrived around 6 pm and by the time we got settled in our hotel we were beat. So, we headed to the grocery store to pick up some breakfast food and snacks. While there, I decided to pick out my birthday dinner and treat. While very simple, it was a great birthday dinner spent with my wonderful husband in wonderful, warm Florida.

Brayden's 4th Birthday Party

Over the weekend we celebrated Brayden's 4th birthday with a party at the house. Many friends and family members came to help celebrate Brayden's special day. Thank you to everyone that helped make the day so special. This year was different because Brayden was actually aware of his birthday and that the party was for him. It was so much fun to see the excitement in his eyes and behavior.

Despite his insitence on wanting a Spongebob party, we finally settled on a soccer ball theme! Nothing against Spongebob...I just didn't want to make a Spongebob cake. Once the theme was settled, Brayden was very excited about it...he wanted a soccer ball cake and he wanted the ball to be blue. So, off to work I went. I am very pleased with how the cake turned out...thanks to a good friend, Becky, for loaning me some supplies.

Brayden has been having so much fun enjoying all of his new toys. He received a few games that we have been playing together as a family...lots of fun.

I feel like Brayden has been in the spotlight lately with all of his activities starting and the new things he has been doing/learning. So, I want to take a moment to share some cute photos of Layna. She and Sydney, our husky, have become quite the good friends lately. Layna often says "my want to play Chee chee (chee chee is how Layna says Sydney right now)." They will run around the kitchen and family room together...Layna will throw Sydney's toys around...etc... I LOVE watching the two of them and it melts my heart how much Layna loves her Chee Chee. The following photos were not posed. We were all watching TV when I looked down and realized Layna was resting on Sydney.

Tired + Hungry = GIANT TANTRUM

As I have mentioned before, Brayden has been trying out the no napping thing lately. He still rests, but doesn't always sleep. Well, little does he know, his body does still need to nap during the day. Last night, around dinnertime, Brayden was soooooooooo crabby. He hadn't taken a nap and refused his afternoon snack. So, come dinnertime I knew I was going to be in for it. He was sent to his room to play by himself after hitting his sister...that's when it all started. Let the tantrum begin. Well, I couldn't listen to it anymore, so I stepped outside in the backyard (and checked on him every couple minutes). Low and behold he finally stopped crying, so I went to go talk to him about hitting and here is what I found...

Brayden's 1st Day of Preschool

As I have been talking about constantly, Brayden started preschool this past Tuesday. I think I was more excited for Brayden than he was for himself. He had a great time. He had no problem with me dropping him off, his teachers had positive things to day about his morning, Brayden had positive things to say about his morning and he wants to go back...it's all good! Of course, I took pictures to document this awesome milestone and here they are...

My Little Artist

We were outside yesterday drawing with sidewalk chalk when Brayden stated he was going to draw a picture of himself. Matt and I encouraged him to do so, and were very surprised and impressed with the result. I have to point out that Brayden is not the most artsy kind of kid. He likes to paint and make a mess, but he usually doesn't take the time to pay attention to detail. So, for this to come from him is a very impressive moment. Mommy is very proud. Thanks for letting me brag!

Time is flying by faster than I can keep up with these days. We have been busy as well as had some quiet, down time...a great balance. Here are a few things that have been going on around here...

Brayden started gymnastics
Brayden starts preschool next week
Brayden's 4th birthday is just around the corner, October 13
Brayden has learned his full address and is very proud of himself
Layna started speech therapy last week
Layna is officially going through the stubborn twos as well as joined the world of the sillies
Layna has just about gotten the hang of pedaling her tricycle
Layna LOVES our puppy, Sydney
Sydney is growing at lightening speed, 45 pounds and counting
Puppy class is going well, exhausting and busy, but well nonetheless
Matt is still employed (hurray) by JP Morgan Chase and is SUPER busy
I am hoping to do some subbing this year at the daycare I have been working at, Gingercare
We have a few trips planned including Florida, Arizona and the Wisconsin Dells

My First 5K

As many of you know, I did my first 5K about a week ago. I LOVED it! I found it to be very motivating, rewarding, exciting, challenging, etc...all wrapped up in one. I ran it with my best friend's husband, Josh. It was great to share my experience with someone. My cheering section consisted of my best friend Megan, Megan's daughter Abby, Matt, Layna and Brayden. I look forward to doing more 5Ks in my future and maybe even a 10K someday (not too soon).

A Bowling Adventure...(from Father's Day)

I know this post is a bit overdue, but I didn't want to leave it out. On Father's Day, Matt wanted to take the kids bowling for the first time. So, off we went. Here is a slide show of some photos and video clips from our adventure. If you plan on taking little ones bowling, I definitely recommend the "ramp" that we used which was available at the bowling alley free of charge. I had never seen or heard of such a thing, but Matt knew about it. It gave the kids some independence with their bowling (and made it easier on Mama and Dada)!

Bedtime Shenanigans

So, I took Sydney for a walk last night leaving Matt to put the kids to bed. Here is what I found upon arriving home and heading upstairs to check on the kids. I invited Brayden into the photos because it was his handiwork, but wanted to note that he was hiding under his bed. When we asked why he did this he responded that he wanted to keep the bugs and snakes from coming up the stairs into his room. He is too much!

(if anyone is wondering,the white stuff on/in Brayden's nose is zinc oxide (aka desitin) recommended by the ENT to help with his nose bleeds, and it is working!)

Summer Fun!

I am happy to report that my camera has survived yet another drowning incident. I accidentally left it outside overnight and, or course, it rained. After several days of drying out, it seems to be working just fine. So, here are some new pictures!

Our first pool playtime of the season. It went well until Sydney decided to bite the inflatable pool! I had a feeling it was going to happen, and probably should have left Sydney in the house/crate. You live and you learn, right?

I honestly can't believe the amount of time between posts for me. I used to be known to post more than once a week...now, I am lucky to do it weekly. That darn facebook...I tell you! LOL

Anyway, here are some pictures (and maybe video clips)from Memorial Day weekend to this past weekend. We have had our busy times and our laid back, stay-at-home and do nothing times. I like to be busy, but I also treasure out time to just stay home and enjoy our family.

Let's see...there are pictures from a backyard campout...it was fun, but we did not make it through the night in the tent. Layna just couldn't settle down to sleep, so I brought her in the house around 11. The boys came in around 4:00 am because it got pretty cold.

Here are some photos from a Memorial Day weekend BBQ at my mom and dad's house. Brayden and Layna took on Grandma in a water throwing/splashing battle...I am not sure who won. Everyon was wet when it was over.

This is what happens when you mix a rainy day with a puppy. She is such a digger and LOVES mud! We don't have any problems when the backyard is dry...but, lookout when there is any moisture whatsoever. We may be fencing off a portiong of the backyard that seems to be the most trouble.

Catching up...

...we have been pretty busy lately with the weather being so nice and all. So, I wanted to take a moment and share some photos from the goings on at our house recently.

Sydney, our puppy, is getting big and getting into trouble right and left. She is very smart and responding to training quite well. It is an ongoing process, but I surely can't wait until she is trained and less trouble maker...LOL! She is a sweetheart and it is great to have her in our family.

The kids are growing like weeds. Layna is not a baby anymore...she is definitely a big girl now. She wants to do EVERYTHING her brother does and as a result is growing up so very fast. She does have some delay in speech and will be starting speech therapy in the near future. Brayden is soaking up every ounce of knowledge that he can get. He is very interested in books lately. He likes to read them to his sister, mom and dad. It is very cute. I have a short video clip of him reading a book to Layna that I may add to this post. He still loves riding his bike and playing with his friends.

Things are looking up for Matt at work as far as business picking up and income increasing again. As a result, he has quit his second job for Target. It is nice to have him home again! Once Brayden starts preschool in the fall, I am hoping to pick up some hours subbing at the daycare again. It will be nice to get out of the house, interact with adults and get some extra money as well.

We are looking forward to the summer. We don't have any big vacations planned, but hope to do some day trips and maybe long weekends hear and there.

He spent most of his time running through the sprinkling water and playing in the small pool of water at the end. Layna, on the other hand, LOVED it. Matt pushed her down it and she laughed the whole time!

A Bandaid Extravaganza

The other day, Brayden got a cut on his finger that does in fact warrant a bandaid. However, after bathtime, Brayden refused to put one on. Off to bed he went and shortly thereafter he was asking for a bandaid. We told him to go in the bathroom and get one...the bandaids were on the counter. Well, this is what happens when you let your three-year-old go in the bathroom to get a bandaid by himself.

Just thought I would update with some new photos of Sydney. I swear she has gotten bigger already. In the last week and a half her ears have stood up...they used to flop over. She is much more comfortable with us and we are starting to see some spunk, personality, trouble and sweetness. I am working really hard on training her. She is doing well...but, struggles when there are distractions around. I am going to keep plugging away at it and have enlisted some help from a neighbor. Then neighbor's dogs are VERY well-behaved/trained. She is only 8 weeks old, so I am cutting her a little slack...but, now is the best time to build good habits, manners and behaviors.

...well, things have been pretty busy here now with the new puppy and nice weather. We are spending A LOT more time outside. I am working hard on getting our pup trained, but the task is a bit overwhelming to me right now. She just turned 8 weeks today, so I have time...but now is the best time to get it going.

Since we have been spending so much time outside there have been days in which Brayden has skipped his nap. I have been wondering if he was growing out of his nap, but it is clear to me that he still needs his nap more often than not. Skipping it now and again is fine...but I notice changes in behavior and mood if we skip it too often. I am including a little video clip of what happens to Brayden at dinner time when we spend the whole day outside with no nap and a video clip of Brayden's newest accomplishment!

I am also going to include a few cute pics of Layna of course! I am in an undecided mode about her bangs. I am feeling like growing them out again because they grow so fast and we can't seem to find someone that can trim them up nicely. I tried this before and then gave up...but, I think this time I am going to try to stick to it. She will just have to pull them to the side during the icky stage. She looks so pretty with her hair out of her face. I also recently took her earrings out (they had been in for a year)...I am now regretting that decision. Taking them out made her aware of her earrings and now she will not leave any in. She takes them out all the time. My mom and I bought her so many cute earrings to wear too. She even pulls out the ones her ears were pierced with...and they are hard for me to get out! Hopefully they won't close right up without earrings in for now.

ust a quick post with a few new photos! Sydney is doing well and settling into her new home. She is sleeping through the night in her crate now...HURRAY!!! She is very attached to a pair of my shoes...she doesn't chew them, she snuggles with them. We added them to the crate and that seemed to help her settle down for the night. Looks like I get to go buy a new pair of shoes! The kids like having her around, but aren't very fond of the typical puppy nipping, toy stealing and just general shenanigans. I am working hard on training Sydney and teaching the kids how to help out with her.

The loss of Cooper was very sudden and sad for all of us. His memory will be alive forever and we will always love him dearly. As many of you know, we have always had pets. Since Cooper's passing our house has been eerily quiet missing the energy and companionship of a dog roaming around. After much discussion and thought, we decided to add a new furbaby. Sydney is a red and white Siberian Husky and she was born on March 4, 2009 (she's almost 7 weeks old). She has a very sweet and loving personality after taking some time to warm up. Brayden and Layna helped us pick her out. We are very excited, and here are a few pictures of her.

April 9, 2002- April 13, 2009

Cooper passed away this morning (Monday, April 13) at home in his favorite place...the backyard. Cooper suffered from a terminal tumor on the heart.

...for our sweet dog, Cooper. I have tears pouring out of my eyes as I type this and I feel helpless. Let me start at the beginning...

Yesterday (the Saturday before Easter) my parents came over for dinner and we cooked some wonderful steaks on the grill. After dinner, Cooper got a hold of one of the bones. He has never had a meat bone before. Fastforward a little over 24 hours (Easter Sunday)...Cooper began displaying some unusual behaviors. He was walking with his back hunched up and everytime he would sit down, he would immediately stand back up clearly out of discomfort. He was panting a lot, licking the air, his ears were tucked back and he just looked sad and uncomfortable. At that time, Matt thought Cooper's stomach seemed a bit enlarged/swollen. Immediately, Matt and I thought about the bone he ate and wondered if he was having stomach or intestinal problems from it. After talking for a bit, we decided the best thing to do was take Cooper to the 24-hour emergency vet near the house. To our surprise, the vet believes the bone eating incident is coincidental to the symptoms Cooper is displaying. His stomach is not, in fact, swollen. She did discover that Cooper has a very weak hearbeat and pulse. She believes he has an inoperable tumor on his heart that is terminal. Further testing needs to be done to officially diagnose the problem.

I am asking everyone for prayers. Cooper is an amazing dog and we love him dearly. Unfortunately, not only do we have Cooper's health and best interested to consider, we also have to consider our financial situation into and and all decisions made with regard to Cooper's health. Please pray for the Lord to put his hand on our family and lead us to the right choices and decisions through the next couple days. Please pray for the Lord to show us what we need to do. Please pray for the Lord to give Cooper peace and comfort in this difficult time. Please pray...we are very, very sad right now.

I will conitnue to update the blog (and facebook) as we continue to deal with this devastation.

A while back I wrote a post about wanting to learn how to take photos in which the focal point is in focus but the background is blurry. After the comments that I received, I was disappointed believing that my camera wasn't a high enough quality. Well, my camera can do it and I am getting better at learning how to do it. I still believe that if I had a higher quality camera I would be able to do it with a little more ease. However, this is going to have to do for now. Here are some photos of my "new skill" and of course some others!

We had Layna's 2nd birthday party over the weekend. We had such a wonderful time and want to thank everyone that came to share Layna's special day with her. Wow, I sure have been neglecting my blog lately...I think Facebook is taking over my life!

So, Layna has some BIG news! She is wearing BIG GIRL UNDERWEAR! Yep, you read that right...NO MORE DIAPERS (except overnight)! She is doing great...better than I ever imagined. She goes when we tell her and occasionally tells us when she has to go. Having a big brother to look up to has definitely helped in the toilet training department with Layna. Is it possible??? Are we almost DONE with diapers??? Whooooot!!!

As usual, we have had our fair share of sicknesses over the past few weeks. Both kiddos recently had bad colds with ear infections. Brayden is just about better, but Layna still has a crazy rash lingering. The only lingering issue for Brayden is trouble sleeping at night. Some nights he sleeps no problem, but then all of the sudden we will have a few nights of him waking three, four, five, six, seven+ times during the night. We really don't know what is going on, but we are going to watch a few food items that he eats (I am seeing a connection between certain food items and his sleep pattern) and talk to his ENT. A while back, the tube in Brayden's right ear came out. Since that happened, his right ear is getting infected with just about every cold/sickness that Brayden has encountered. I am wondering if this might also be contributing to the sleep issues. We shall see. I took Layna to the doctor about the rash last week. The doctor said the rash is probably just part of the virus and it needs to run its course. He said it could last another week or so. Fortunately, she doesn't seem to be in any discomfort from it. I can't wait for it to go away though. Matt and I are managing to stay pretty healthy.

Layna has her 2nd birthday coming up...I can't believe she is going to be two already. She is growing up way to fast. We are doing a cupcake themed birthday party this year, and we can't wait to celebrate with family and friends. Additionally, I took Layna for her two-year-old portraits over the weekend and she did FANTASTIC! The pictures turned out adorable, and I can't wait to pick them up. Brayden is going this coming weekend...let's hope he is as cooperative. I may try to get the two of them together as well. It all depends on cooperation.

I (we) are so ready for spring to arrive...the winter blahs have come over me BIG TIME...I don't even want to take photos much lately. The weather is all over the place...one day it is freezing outside, then it is almost 60, then it is raining, then it is cold again. Well, you get the idea. I am ready for some consistent nice weather so we can play outside often.

Brayden's park district class has come to an end. He absolutely loved going and really connected with one of his teachers, Miss Tiffany. I am so glad he loved it and had opportunities to do so many fun things. Funds are tight right now, so we couldn't afford to enroll him in anything at this time...so, it is all on me to make life fun, education and exciting. He will be attending preschool in the fall.

That about sums it up for now...of course, I am including some photos. I felt like reminiscing a bit, so here are some photos from this time over the last few years. I can't believe how much the kids are growing up!

Our Little Princess Fiona

Since the day Layna came home Matt and I both felt like Layna wasn't really a "girly-girl" or a "princess"...and, as she has gotten older she has continued to follow in that path. She likes all her brother's toys...cars, trains, trucks, tools, Disney Cars, Little Einsteins, balls, etc... Notice there aren't any girly-girl toys in that list. Trust me, she has girly-girl toys, she just doesn't choose to play with them. However, for some reason, Princess has stuck as a nick name for Layna.

Well, for Christmas Grandma Thompson bought Layna her first princess night gown...all pink and girly. Matt and I both looked at it and thought "This is NOT Layna!" Surprisingly, Layna LOVES to wear it...she gets a cute little smile on her face and prances around the house in it. She feels pretty.

A Beautiful Day at the Park

We had a very beautiful day on Tuesday...very unusual for this time of year. So, we took full advantage of the day and headed out to the park. Going to the lodge...The Great Wolf Lodge

We just got back from a long weekend at The Great Wolf Lodge in Wisconsin. The resort has an indoor (and outdoor) water park, arcade, indoor play area, etc....We had a blast, but the weekend did not get off to the greatest start...We have/had been looking forward to this trip for about six months. We made the reservations with some friends of ours waaaaaaaayyyyyy back. As the trip got closer we became more and more excited. Unfortunately, Tuesday morning Matt woke up with a terrible stomach bug and we were leaving Thursday. Let me just say, panic set in and I was freaking out that we would all be sick for the trip. However, luck was on our side and Matt's sickness was very short-lived and the rest of us stayed perfectly healthy. So, off we went. We had a very smooth ride and the excitement really set in when we arrived. We all got settled in, put our suits on and headed to the water park. About 20 minutes into being at the water park, I asked Matt for the camera. A look of panic comes over both of us as we realize it is in the pocket of his swim suit and he is completely submerged in the water and has been for quite some time. Let me tell you...I was hearbroken. How could I survive a weekend without a camera! Matt insists the camera will be fine and our friends agree to give us a disk of the pictures that they take...phew...at least I am not without pictures. The camera, well...I will get into that more later. Long story short...we have a blast swimming, playing, eating, sleeping, swimming, playing, eating, sleeping, swimming, playing, eating, sleeping...well, you get the picture. We had a GREAT trip and I have put together a little photo/video montage for you viewing pleasure. How do I have pics already, you ask? Well, Matt ran to Wal-mart to pick up some "dinner supplies" and came back with a brand new camera for me. He felt very badly. You want to know the best part??? This morning, we tried the old water logged camera and it is back to normal! Works perfectly...so, the new camera has been returned to Wal-mart for a full refund, and I have my old baby back again!!! Let's just say, Canon cameras ROCK!!!

I have been a slacking blogger lately...I have simply been lurking on others blogs and not taking the time to leave comments. Please know that I am reading your blogs. I have just been too lazy to write anything. I am going to try to get back on the saddle again.

As some of you already know...we ended up giving our new dog, Lobo, back to his previous owners. The did not, in fact, move overseas, so taking him back was an option for them. Lobo was/is a great dog, but he and our dog, Cooper, just weren't getting along. Initially they would have small arguments over food (dog or people), then they started having arguments over silly little things that they decided to protect (i.e. a dead plant in the backyard). By Tuesday of this week, all they did was walk past each other and they would fight. The fights started getting longer and more intense. By Tuesday evening, I was in the backyard shouting and throwing boots at them to get them to quit (which was a sight to see I am sure). Once I got them apart I put Lobo in his crate and Cooper was gated in the kitchen. They stayed that way until Lobo went back to his previous owners Wednesday morning. It almost seems like they are both better as only dogs. It's not fair to the dogs to keep them together for their safety, and we do not want to risk the children getting hurt. I am a little extra protective after the issues we had with our lab recently. I am sad to see him go, but happy that both dogs will be happy again.

Brayden started another class with the park district. It meets twice a week for 1.5 hours each session. It is structured like a preschool and he LOVES it to say the least. The do art, circle time, story time, snack time, etc... The teacher has nothing but good things to say about Brayden which makes me so proud. However, if you ask Brayden what he did at school, he will either tell you what snack he ate or say "nothing". I am getting ready to enroll Brayden into preschool for the fall. He will be going to preschool at the day care I used to work at. He is going to LOVE it and it will be great for him! It will also allow for some mommy and daughter time.

Layna is doing fantastic. She is trying to talk more and more. I have a small amount of concern for her speech right now, but am going to wait until she is two and see if I want to have her evaluated. She has a lot of words, but they aren't very easy to understand for someone other than Matt or me. I have also noticed that she seems to lose words. One day she can say a particular word and says it all the time, then all of the sudden it's gone from her vocabulary. I honestly do not know or remember if this is normal/common. She is definitely a goof ball though. She likes to have the attention on her and to make people laugh.

Brayden and Layna have a true brother/sister, love/hate relationship. The are constantly getting on each others nerves, snatching toys from each other and just generally being brother and sister. However, just this week, I have observed more cooperative play for significant lenghts of time. Just last night, they played with their kitchen and McDonalds nicely for just about an hour giving me time tp prep dinner and relax for a bit. It was nice!

Well, that ended up being a lot longer than I had anticiapted...so, here are some photos as a reward for making it through!

Pink Peace...walking for cancer!

Thanks to Amy for letting me do a guest blog!! Amy and I know each other through our kids. Makenna and B went to school together for about a year. The funny part is that for all the time M & B were in school together, we’ve lived one street apart, yet we didn’t get to be “friends” until fairly recently! I am so thankful that I am getting to know her and that I have her close by – she is such an awesome person. I think God works like that – He gives you the people you need…when you need them. Sort of why I am blogging here today…..I wanted to share with you a story…..a story of how God works…in His time…..with an amazing outcome….the story of my mom’s battle with breast cancer. You see, God works. He works in everything.

My name is Heather Freeman….I live in Chicago…oh blah blah blah….let’s get to the good stuff. The following is my mom’s story about her fight with breast cancer and her testimony through it. It is my hope that this will touch someone, maybe someone that has a personal connection with this terrible disease or someone who just needs to be reminded of God’s love and how powerful He truly is regardless of the situation. Here goes…it’s long, but her touching words are worth it……

Nearly 7 years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer……and from the moment I found out I knew that I had nothing to fear.

Because of my faith, I know that nothing touches us that God does not allow. Quite simply, if He allows it then He also has a plan. Of course, I didn’t know what that plan was but I know that He knew about this cancer before I was ever even born. For that reason…..from day 1, I asked God to use this for His glory. I knew that if I could trust Christ with my very soul then I could certainly trust him with a mere tumor. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that it was something that I wanted to go through or that I would ever want to go through again….but God pulled me close and gave me a peace that is unexplainable. . . one that took me from the moment we got the diagnosis to the moment I was declared cancer free.

My first surgery was 15 hours because of complications. Then, just two days later I had to go back into surgery. I didn’t understand but I told God that I was just giving it all to Him and trusting Him. He had certainly comforted me before, but this is when He really started to move. My mother was there for that second surgery. See, my husband and I had been praying for my mother for over 35 years….praying for her to come to know Christ as her savior but it was not something she was interested in talking about. For the entire 35 years, we never gave up on praying for her. I had a very deep burden for her salvation and I had asked God several times to use whatever it takes for my mom to come to Him. As my husband was walking me into surgery I asked him to go back to my room while I was in surgery and give my mother the gospel once again and to make it as clear and simple as God made it for us. I can remember being taken back to the recovery room after the surgery and I could hear the nurses in the background saying you can’t come in here yet….and then I could hear my husband’s voice saying “and you can’t stop me.” He walked over to me and kissed me and said “Your mother just trusted Christ as her savior”. I then remember looking at him and saying that it was all worth it. God knew this was the time and I am so grateful to have a husband that loves the Lord so much that during such a difficult time for him he was willing to put his feelings aside and share Christ’s love with my mom….to continue with the effort for which I had had a burden for so very long. My mom went home to be with Jesus the following year. God heard our prayers.

This cancer thing…..it was a difficult time but a time that Christ pulled me so close and taught me so much. He blessed me with so many wonderful friends who provided meals and house cleanings and so many other needs. My family was wonderful…..my husband, son and three daughters. They cared for me with such love and compassion and they did things for me that I never wanted them to have to do but thanked God that they were willing to do whatever it took to get me back to good health. He worked such a work in their lives also and taught them so much about the power of prayer. To this day I am so thankful for everything from them and from God.

When God works, God works big! He didn’t just leave it there….one night during the middle of my chemotherapy treatment days, He woke me up in the middle of the night and I knew that He had something very important that He wanted to tell me. I was so tired and sick but I knew I had to listen. I got up and went to sit on the couch. After a few minutes I picked up my bible and began reading where I had left off earlier. I had been reading through the Gospels during the chemo and left off at John 9. As I began reading, it was a story I had read so many times before but this time it took on a whole new meaning. It was the story of the blind man. “As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened that the work of God might be displayed in his life.” I knew that my loving God was waking me up to tell me that my cancer was for his glory. I never have to wonder or ask why because he let me know. Was it for my mom’s salvation or for some other reason? I don’t know. But I do know that God received the glory. I often think what if I had chosen to stay in bed that night and not listen. I would have missed out on such a big piece of this journey.

I will be walking in the Chicago 3Day walk for breast cancer. I am walking to raise money for those that are going through or will be going through this terrible disease. It will be a prayer walk for me. I will be asking God to let me share what He did through my cancer and be able to share his love with the thousands that will be walking with us. I am so excited about walking with my 3 wonderful daughters who have been such an amazing part of my life. I love them more than life itself and am blessed to have them in my life. I also will be walking with one of my dearest friends that God has recently brought back into my life after many years when I needed her friendship. God is so good!

The name of out team is called “Pink Peace”. We want to be able to share the peace that can only come through him even in difficult times. We are walking to Overcome!
John 16:33 says “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Snow Day

Well, Friday was a snow day in our area...schools and businesses all over were closed. Granted a snow day for us is just like any other day (Matt went to work), but we did venture outside to enjoy the freshly fallen snow and shovel the driveway. Brayden had a BLAST, but the princess was not too pleased. She lasted about 10-15 minutes before she turned on the poor me crying and tantrums...it was wonderful (insert sarcasm).

One year ago today...

...Matt and I were headed to Guatemala to pick up our sweet girl, Malayna! I can't believe a year has gone by already. She has changed so much and is becoming such an independent little girl...she's definitely not a baby anymore.

I still remember the feelings of distress and confusion when Layna wasn't brought to us until the day AFTER we had expected to get her. We arrived on the 16th and were told the attorney and foster family were coming that afternoon/evening. I was going nuts walking around the Marriott wondering where my baby was and watching all the other families enjoying their children. But, alas, she was finally brought to us at 11:00 am on the 17th, and we have been a family of four ever since.

We have definitely had our ups and downs over the last year. Layna's transition home was so much more difficult that Brayden's was, and we weren't prepared for that. A lot of sleepless nights and crying were had, but we made it. Layna is a dream come true. We love her to pieces...she has a funny, lovable personality. She loves her brother to death and wants to be with him and do EVERYTHING he is doing which, of course, drives him crazy sometimes. She is definitely a Mama's girl...and I love it!

Just an update...

...so, many of you are probably sick of hearing about how sick Brayden and Layna are, however some of you have been asking. I wish I could report that we are all doing well. Unfortunately, that is not the case. Layna recovered from the stiff neck (the day after I took her to the doctor),but then a couple days later she spiked a fever that lasted less than 24 hours on. In addition to the fever, she also started having diarrhea which we are still dealing with today (day 5). Brayden also spiked a fever on Saturday afternoon which lasted just about 24 hours and so far today, seems fine. So, that is the status on our never ending sick saga...

I didn't want this post to be only about my sick kiddos...so, I made a quick video montage to share with you. Despite being sick ALL the time lately, they are still cute!

WARNING - THIS IS A VENTING POST!!!!!!! THERE WILL BE NEGATIVE THOUGHTS, OVERREACTION AND FRUSTRATION TO FOLLOW!!!

So, Layna spiked a 102 fever this afternoon!!! Haven't we already had our fair share of sickness this season? When does it give? What am I doing wrong? Do we need to lock ourselves in our home and not let anyone else in? How do I keep my kids healthy?

I should be sitting here feeling sorry for my poor sick daughter (which I do), but instead, I can't help but be extremely frustrated with how sick we have been since November. We have had more sick days than well days in the last month and a half and I just don't know what I am doing wrong. Thankfully, we have good insurance, but how many more copays do we have to pay during the holiday season! We are well over $200 in doctor visit copays and prescription copays in the last month. I am giving my kids vitamins...we wash hands like crazy...I feed them a fairly well balanced diet...I am feeling so inadequate as a mom right now. I am supposed to protect my children and make them feel safe. How can they feel safe and happy when they feel miserable all the time.

Ok...I feel a little bit better. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. Both kiddos are sleeping right now, and I am afraid of what will be when they wake up. Scratch that...Layna is crying...gotta go...

A Great Recipe - Turkey Burgers

I commented about the yummy turkey burgers that I made for dinner last night and MANY people are asking for the recipe. So, I thought I would post it here on my blog for everyone to see. The best part about the recipe...the kids ate it! The recipe comes from Better Homes and Gardens.

Team Favorite Turkey Burger
1/4 cup fine dry bread crumbs
3 tablespoons ketchup
4 teaspoons dill or sweet pickle relish (I used dill)
1 clove garlic
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 pound uncooked ground turkey or chicken (I used turkey)
1/3 cup low-fat mayonnaise dressing or salad dressing (I actually used regular mayonnaise)
Lettuce (I used iceberg)
Tomato slices
4 whole wheat hanburger buns

1. Preheat broiler. In a large bowl combine bread crumbs, 2 tablespoons of the ketchup, 2 teaspoons of the relish, garlic, salt and 1/8 teaspoon of the pepper. Add ground turkey; mix well. Shape turkey mixture into four 1/4-inch-thick patties.

2. In a small bowl combine mayonnaise dressing, remaining 1 tablespoon ketchup, remaining 2 teaspoons relish and remaining 1/8 teaspoon pepper; set aside.

3. Place patties on the unheated rack of a broiler pan. Broil 4-5 inches from the heat for 14-18 minutes or until no longer pink (165 F), turning once halfway through broiling.

4. To serve, place lettuse leaves and tomato slices on the bottom halves of the buns. Top with burgers. Spoon mayonnaise mixture on burgers. Add top halves of the buns.

Nutrition Facts per serving...343 cal., 12 g total fat (3 g saturated fat)

They were very yummy! I am always looking for good and easy recipes that the whole family will love. So, when I find one, I like to share it. If you try it...let me know what you think!

There isn't any particular theme this week for FFF, so I am going to just post some recent photos. I have been trying and trying and trying to get the kids to let me take their photos in front of the Christmas tree. Brayden has been cooperative, but Layna, let's just say she is less than cooperative. So, I have several cute photos of Brayden by the tree.

Also, I took Layna to get her hair cut today. I decided to go back to bangs for her...the growing out is driving me BATTY! I can't stand her hair in her eyes all the time, and putting piggies in every day is just not that much fun anymore. So, she has a thin layer of bangs now and had about an inch taken off the length to try to even everything out. I think she looks pretty darn cute. So, I will include some photos of her new 'do as well.

Everyone is healthy again (knock on wood)...boy, it has been a rough few weeks here at the Goldstein household. I am exhausted...to say the least, but very glad everyone is doing well again.

EDITED...Thank you so much everyone for your advice and opinions! It is greatly appreciated. I decided to follow my gut and wait until tomorrow's doctor apointment. I may be naive...but, I don't feel like this meningitis. I feel like she would have another symptom. Right now the ONLY symptom is the stiff neck. Otherwise she is acting like her normal self. So, I don't feel like I need to rush her in. I do however, believe that she definitely needs to be seen, and I want her seen by the doctor that knows the history of her being sick for the last couple weeks. So, tomorrow at 9:45 we will be at the doctor's office. I will update everyone with what we find out.

As I mentioned in my last post...scroll down to see it...Layna has developed a stiff neck. Of course, I searched the internet to see what could be going on. For the most part, it's probably nothing, but there is always the minor possibility that it is meningitis...I read it on-line and have had a NUMBER of people suggest it and encourage me to take her to the doctor. I decided to wait and see what today brought because she did not wake up stiff from nap yesterday. Well, she did wake up stiff today, but it only lasted about 10 minutes. Now, she is acting fine. I called to make an appointment with the doctor only to find out that we can't get in until tomorrow. Part of me thinks if the doctor knew the symptom, she would want to see Layna today. But, I was only able to talk to the receptionist...and to her, a stiff neck does not sound serious (unless you know the history).

I am so torn friends...what would you do?

Thanksgiving Weekend and some other things...(EDITED)

EDITED TO REPORT THAT MATT WILL CONTINUE TO BE EMPLOYED!!!! THE CALL CENTER THAT HE WORKS AT IS STAYING OPEN!!!

With so much to be thankful for this year, Thanksgiving was such a blessed time for us. However, I did find it difficult to remember to focus on all the blessings in my life while being faced with some difficulties (more later). This was Malayna's 1st Thanksgiving home with us, and our first Thanksgiving together as a family of 4! I prayed for a family for so long, and now I have it...what more could I ask for.

We hosted Thanksgiving this year, a tradition we hope to continue. Our house was full of family, love and warmth with about 20 people. The food was wonderful, the company was wonderful...EVERYTHING was wonderful. Thank you to everyone that brought such delicious food to share!

Unfortunately, I didn't take very many photos on Thanksgiving Day for two reasons. I was very busy hosting, but mostly overwhelmed with worry about my sick little girl. Many of you know (from facebook) that Layna has been sick for quite some time. It started off as a cold that led to a double ear infection and high fevers. She was miserable...lethargic, clingy, tired, sad, warm... She was prescribed an omnicef initially which she had an allergic reaction to (hives). So, back to the doctor we went. Thankfully, here ears were clearing up, but we had to deal with the hives. So, she was switched to a new antibiotic (a Z-pack). The rash and hives cleared up within 24 hours of taking the new antibiotic, but the fevers continued to spike for days and days. Her lethargy continued...her lack of interest in anything continued...her clinginess and crying continued...her sleep started to become interrupted...she developed a HORRIBLE diaper rash (the skin just started peeling off, sorry if TMI)...she was just miserable. Diaper changing was a nightmare...she was so tense and screamed bloody murder. By Thanksgiving Day, I was at my breaking point. I felt horrible because I just didn't know what to do anymore. She spent most of the day on someone's lap just staring. One other symptom that I started noticing is that she was rubbing/pulling at the back of her head towards her neck close to her right ear. Well, I am pleased to report that the day after Thanksgiving shortly after we called and scheduled her another doctor's appointment, she literally turned a corner right before our eyes. Her face lit up, she was smiling again, she was playing again, she was laughing again, she was Layna again! We were so relieved! Since then, the only concern I have is that she has developed a stiff neck. Everytime she wakes up (morning and nap time) she does not want to look to the right, and if she does it is VERY stiff and she cries. I honestly do not know if I should be concerned or not. The stiffness wears off eventually, but then starts all over after she sleeps. Part of me thinks maybe all the tension from the diaper rash may have caused the stiffness...but, I am not a doctor. We have the diaper rash under control, so her tension should settle down. Layna is not usually our sick child, as many of you know, so to see her so miserable was very hard for me.

The other difficulty looming over my head is the fate of Matt's job...today is December 1st, the day JP Morgan Chase stated they would reveal their plans for cutting and keeping Washington Mutual employees. So, I am sitting here on pins and needles wondering what is going to happen. Please say a little prayer for our family. I know in my heart that whatever happens was meant to be, but it is still scary.

A few of you have asked how Lobo is doing? If you don't know who Lobo is, click here . He is doing very well. He is settling in to his new home and new family quite nicely. Night time has been tough, but is getting better. We had him nuetered on Saturday, so he is also recovering from that as well. Try keeping a 2-year-old dog from running, playing and jumping after surgery...NOT happening. He is a very sweet dog and a great addition to our family. He loves attention and being outside. He and Cooper, our other huskey, are getting along well and growing to like each other more and more each day. Well, Lobo LOVES Cooper, but Cooper is taking time to get used to his new friend.

It's a Boy...Our Newest Addition to the Family

We got a second DOG!!! His name is Lobo and he is a two-year-old huskey with quite a lot of spunk. We heard that he needed a new home because his previous owners are moving overseas for the military. We LOVE huskies, but did not want to start over with a puppy. So, a two-year-old already house broken and trained huskey was a temptation we could not resist. It is going to be a bit of a transition...Cooper and Lobo are still trying to determine who is top dog, etc...

So...here he is! His eyes are VERY unique. His left eye is brown and his right is half brown (top) and half blue (bottom)...sounds crazy, I know. I did a double take when I noticed. I don't know how well you can tell in the pictures. Of course, I included one photo of the two pups together!

Well friends, it has been a loooooooooong and rough week, but I think we are over the hump and on the road to recovery. I feel like a human again; Brayden is back to making BIG messes and driving me crazy; Matt is back to work; and Layna...well, she is the only one still not herself yet. She spiked a fever again last night, but I am not too concerned. I don't think her antibiotic has kicked in full force yet. Boy, did we get hit hard again. I hope this isn't a sign as to how the whole winter season is going to be. Maybe we are just getting it all over with now....a girl can hope, right?

Anyway, now I have been obsessively cleaning and disinfecting the house. We are hosting Thanksgiving, and I don't want any germs left in the house for the holiday. I have the second floor done, almost ALL the laundry (I am SOOOOOO tired of doing laundry) is done, I just organized the toys in the basement, etc.....It's a lot of work, but something has to keep me busy.

I haven't been taking a lot of pictures lately, but I will include a few for those of you who need a Brayden and Layna fix. I have missed blogging...and, I am glad to be feeling better.

Hello everyone...just wanted to say that we are here and doing just fine. Thank you to those of you who have asked and wondered. The kids have been sick this week, so we haven't done anything real exciting and I haven't been taking pictures. It started with pink eye on Monday for Layna. Then, Tuesday Layna started showing symptoms of a cold, and on Wednesday Brayden started showing the same cold symptoms. By the end of the day yesterday, Brayden was cashed out on the couch with a low grade fever and both of them have full blown nasty colds. Brayden had a rough night last night, and right now the kids are resting in front of the TV. Layna does not have a fever at this point. Brayden and I have well visits previously scheduled with our ENT today. I go yearly to check on my allergies and sinuses, and Brayden goes every three months to check on his ears (he has tubes). So, I think we are going to go anyway and I can make sure there aren't any infections going on in Brayden's ears.

Anyway, I have one question for those of you that like photography. I often see photos on other people's blogs that are stunning. When I look closely, I notice the the background of the photo is not in focus, but the person (or whatever is being featured in the photo) is crystal clear. So, I am wondering, how do you all do that? If it is easy to explain, leave me a comment. I have a decent digital camera, so I am thinking I am just missing something. I need to pull out the manual and read up on all the different features of my camere, but thought I would ask. I am becoming more and more interested in photography, but don't know much about it. Can anyone recommend any good books out there???

Not too much else is going on here. We are still waiting to hear the fate of Matt's job. We are supposed to know by December 1st, but it sounds like that date might get extended. At this point, I just want to know so that we can make a plan as a family. The waiting around is truly horrible.

I am thinking we may drag out the holiday decorations this weekend and get a head start on that before things get too hectic. I can't wait to see how the kids enjoy "helping" and seeing all the decorations. The LOVE seeing the stores all decked out for the holidays, so I am sure they are going to be ecstatic about the house being decorated. Money is tight this holiday season, so it is going to be the things we do and see that are going to be the gifts of the season!

Art Time

Today, I pulled out the paints, markers, scissors and paper; and we went to town doing artsy things. We started by making handprint turkeys in honor of Thanksgiving coming just around the corner. Then, I let Brayden loose with scissors and markers while Layna did her thing with markers. They had so much fun and created some great pieces of art.

It was a lot of fun for all of us...Brayden usually doesn't get into art, but this time he had a blast. He was "writing letters" (aka scribbling, but telling me which letters he was writing)!!! Layna was having fun taking the caps off the markers, coloring her hands and then putting the capless markers and the caps back into the container. I had fun cleaning up that disaster, but she had a great time doing it.
